Wow, only 16 days until the start of the winter Olympics. The city is working 24/7 to get everything completed in time and is doing an amazing job. These images show some of the street furniture being installed on Granville Street (mostly chairs and bike racks) as well as the finished wrap on the RBC building.

There is a lantern festival being displayed on Granville Street between Robson and Georgia. It will run over the Olympic and Paralympic Games. There are some interesting pieces as well as a "forest" of trees with the tree tops consisting of small lanterns made by children from around the world.

At the far edge of the Westend and just as you start into Stanley Park is Lost Lagoon in Vancouver. You can always find a local feeding the birds that are there year round. My previous apartment was just near the lagoon and you could always find me snapping pix.

Part of the facade from the new Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel here in Vancouver. The hotel to be completed in time for Vancouver/Whistler Olympics is looking good with different facades attached around the building. Seen here are the dimensional letters spelling out a line from a poem that appears on the south and east sides of the hotel. It is an art installation by British artist Liam Gillick. The line is: "Lying on top of a building the clouds looked no nearer than when I was lying on the street." For all the font nerds out there the letters are stainless steel, 61 cm tall in helvetica bold.

Homeless person sleeping on Burrard street near Pender. This a new shot and part of a series of images of homeless people in Vancouver sleeping on the streets. More images can be seen on my other blog - hoga_photo. I thought this one was appropriate to start this daily image blog as this is a hot topic in Vancouver with the 2010 Olympics about to start and many people feeling that too much is/was spent on the games rather than social needs. Either way that isn't what the image or this blog is about.
